Group Classes

in Manhattan

Classes designed to meet your training needs.

From basic obedience to advanced training, we have a wide range of group classes to fit your dog's needs, your schedule and budget. With consistent class schedules each week, you can stay committed to your dog's training and ensure that you see progress in their performance over time.

Our experienced trainers will guide you and your dog through effective training techniques, helping you to develop your own dog training skills. By handling your own dog in group classes, you'll not only develop a better relationship with your dog, but you'll also gain the satisfaction of seeing your own growth as your dog begins to develop positive habits and behaviors that reflect your dedication and hard work.

First Grade

Acquisition of skills

In addition to training behaviors like sit, down, stand and walking nicely on leash, First Grade teaches your dog how much fun it can be to work for you as we lay the foundation to learning more advanced training skills. In First Grade, we focus on establishing lines of communication between you and your dog. You will learn about dog body language and how to change challenging behaviors that are happening at home. You may be surprised at how readily your dog will want to learn new things.
Enroll in 1st grade — $180
Class is open enrollment. Choose a start date and time. You will be automatically added to your 6 class dates. Please note: There are no refunds if you miss a class, however, you can purchase make up classes for $30.

Second Grade

Developing precision

In Second Grade, you and your dog will build on the skills you learned in first grade. We will be introducing training exercises that are more challenging and useful in the real world. As we continue to establish better lines of communication with our dog, we will also be working on solving challenging behaviors that are happening at home. In Second Grade, our focus is establishing manners so you have a better behaved dog both at home and away.

Third Grade

Adding 3Ds

Now that you've established a solid foundation, the skills your dog learned in the previous two classes will really start to shine in Third Grade! At this level, we'll start reinforcing behavior reliability, adding the 3Ds (distance, duration and distractions), plus training more complex behaviors. After you complete Third Grade you will be eligible to test for the AKC Canine Good Citizen certificate.

Harmony at Home Workshop

Presented by Ria Goodyear
October 14, 12:00-2:00pm

As loving parents, we all want nothing but the best for our children – and that includes ensuring their safety and well-being in every aspect of their lives. It's natural to feel uneasy if you've noticed anything that may suggest that your dog's behavior is a cause for concern when interacting with your kids or their friends. While your furry family member may have always been a cherished part of the family, it's crucial to take proactive steps to maintain a harmonious home environment.

Enroll | $30
This 2-hour workshop  is for the human end of the leash. Children are welcome, but please leave your dog at home for this one.

Our foundation group classes feature:

Open enrollment

Our open enrollment classes offer a convenient and flexible way to start your dog's training while working with your schedule. Unlike other dog trainers' classes, where you have to wait for a specific start date, you can enroll in MuttSchool's classes and begin training that week. The open enrollment format also ensures that your dog doesn't miss any essential milestones, making the training process smoother and more efficient.

Flexible scheduling

With our group classes, you control when you attend class. If you need to miss a week—no problem. Just don't schedule yourself for that class and use your credits to select other dates you are able to attend. Use your 6 credits within 12 weeks of the first week you start classes.

Personalized attention

Enjoy the benefits of personalized attention and a fun learning environment with our small class sizes. With a limit of 6-8 clients and dogs, you can feel confident that you won't feel overwhelmed by a large group. Say goodbye to the stress of overcrowding in group classes and hello to a positive and effective learning experience!

Earn AKC CGC certificates

MuttSchool highly recommends that you take Grades 1, 2 and 3 for a well-rounded training program. Save 10% and complete all 3 grades while preparing to take the AKC CGC test with your dog (sign up below for testing).

No time to practice between classes?

Add-on DaySchool and let our trainers reinforce what your dog is learning in class.

Combine your group class with Day School! At MuttSchool, we offer a rotating schedule of six different training topics, each covered in a weekly session over six weeks. This consistent topic structure is utilized across all of our services, which means that if you attend a group class and later drop your dog off at DaySchool, the trainers at DaySchool will be working on the same topic, allowing for a seamless transfer of skills and reinforcement of what you and your dog learned in the group class. This makes training happen faster and helps your dog generalize new skills. With our experienced trainers by your side, you'll see amazing results in no time.

PLEASE NOTE: Foundation group classes ARE NOT appropriate for dogs with behavioral problems, dogs who are disruptive in a kennel or for reactive dogs (dogs that growl, bark or lunge on leash). We do have training options specifically designed for dogs with these BEHAVIORAL CHALLENGES.
